Glebe Winter League 2007-2008 (Revised)

As of the 26th October the format of this year's winter league has been revised to be as follows:

This year's winter league has already started. Weather permitting, the league will run over a series of 20 Sunday matches.

The matches will be in four groups of five matches, each angler's highest four scoring matches will count for league points. The points will be awarded on a section basis, with the winner of each section scoring 1 point, second place 2 points etc. We will always try and make the sections as even as is practical.

In the event of a tie on weight in a section then that position's points will be allocated to each angler. This will not affect the points of the anglers in other positions, for example in a draw for second position, points would be allocated thus; first place - 10 points, joint second place - 9 points each, fourth place - 9 points. In the event of a tie for final league positions then the final positions will be decided on total weights in the points-scoring matches.

As usual in these matches if any of the lakes to be fished is frozen then the match will be cancelled from the league points, although, if possible we may peg other lakes to accommodate the match. All anglers competing in the matches will be automatically entered into the league - you do not have to fish all the league matches.

£40 will be subtracted from the pools on each match to give the final pool of £800. If we fish all the matches, this will be paid out at 30% (£240) - 25% (£200) - 20% (£160) - 15% (£120) - 10% (£80). The pools payout for each weekly match will be the same as any members' match on a section basis.

The match dates are as follows:

Oct. 14th, 21st, 28th
Nov. 4th, 11th,

Nov. 18th, 25th
Dec. 2nd, 9th, 16th

Jan. 20th, 27th
Feb. 3rd, 10th, 17th,

Feb. 24th
Mar. 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd

You will notice there are a few Sundays on which the league is not run. The period directly after Christmas and early in January in particular has been left clear as we have netting operations on our lakes and the lakes will have to be drained, including our main match lake, pool 1.

Wherever possible there will still be a Sunday members' match on these dates on other available lakes.

FROM THE FIRST WINTER LEAGUE MATCH BREAD WILL BE ALLOWED AS LONG AS IT IS NOT FISHED ON THE SURFACE AND IT IS PUNCHED NO LARGER THAN 12MM (½”) IN DIAMETER AND DEPTH. THIS IS TO HOPEFULLY KEEP US CATCHING A FEW BONUS FISH THROUGHOUT THE WINTER. ANY BENDING OF THIS RULE AND IT WILL NO LONGER BE ALLOWED.

Hopefully we will enjoy another tremendous winter's sport and we can keep the fun in our fishing, full reports of all our performances will be posted on a weekly basis.

Kev Russell.
