exit from archiveAll fisheries are facing increased risk from the importation of parasites and virus. One reason is that more and more anglers are carrying their nets in totally waterproof stink bags.
KHV and SMS are an ever-increasing threat. Dozens of waters are affected every year and the numbers are growing. Countless thousands of fish are dying.
As responsible anglers we must do as much as possible to prevent this from happening. Dip tanks are one option but are difficult to manage and are not proven to be effective.
We have therefore introduced the following new rule (note that keepnets are only allowed in official matches):
A.5 As soon as you get to your peg you must put your nets out behind you so that they get a chance to dry and so that they are exposed to as much ultraviolet light as possible. This will help destroy any SMS or KHV present on your nets and will help protect our fish. Tell your neighbour that you have put your nets out. Five minutes before the start of the event the all-in signal will be given – position your nets only after this signal and ensure that your neighbour has observed you adhering to this rule. It will possibly only need one angler to not follow this rule to result in a total wipe out of all our fish.
To protect our barbel we have also introduced the following new rule:
A.6 No barbel are to be kept in keepnets. They do not count towards your total catch and must therefore be returned straight to the free water.
The above rules are now in effect. Anyone breaking them will be immediately banned from Mallory Park Fisheries.
You can view all of our rules here.
