Netting

One reason we have fantastic fishing is because of our Fishery management programmes. This involves netting ALL of our lakes on a three-year rotation programme.

Those of you that come on the netting days are always staggered by the amounts of small fish that are present and have to be removed. We aim to remove about 80% of the small fish. This allows the remainder to grow into a decent size. If this does not happen our fishing would rapidly deteriorate.

The dates subject to the lakes not being frozen are below and the more help the better.

We have unpredictable weather and this year we have scheduled week commencing December 5th. (Remember last year we were totally frozen in this week).

First actual netting day will be Tuesday December 6th and we will start on the Foundation Lake. This will be lowered during the proceeding week along with Mallory Big Lake, which is scheduled, for netting on Wednesday December 7th.

The Foundation is the only main fishing lake in this years programme although all of the rearing ponds will also be netted. Stock adjustment and stock rotation is paramount to keep our fishery the best and dependant on results some fish may be introduced into all or some of our lakes including the Foundation lake.

The whole week is also scheduled as a maintenance week so there will be plenty to do every day, especially on the Foundation Lake where maintenance is urgently required. The same week last year all of the lakes were frozen, if in doubt give me a ring for locations. We plan to start around 9am everyday.

For those who do not understand the timing regarding lake drain downs, we have to take a chance with the weather, but of utmost importance is the water temperature, it has to be cold.

With new fish being introduced the fishing dependant on temperature and how quickly the lakes refill is normally pretty good.
