display archiveWith the ice all gone at the Glebe we were back to winter league matches. Thirty seven anglers were looking forward to getting back to some ice free lakes. Team Abacus were unfortunately not attending the match this week so it was up to myself and Gordon Parker to sort out pegs and collect money, many comments were made about the lack of insults at the draw. There were 21 pegs on pool 1 and eight pegs on the bottom two lakes 6 and 7, pools 4 and 5 were out as the water is still low awaiting our fishery management plan. This week Bob drew me out peg 96, at the far end of pool 6, this was not a good draw but it has produced a few results. Pool 6 was quite flooded due to the extra water bypassing pools 4 and 5. I was hoping that the extra water had pushed the carp to my end.
Pool 1 fished quite well considering the weather we have had, most of the field had at least one carp in their catch. There were reports of very random casting from the winner of section one, Tony Woodings - it paid off with 10 carp on peg 2.
Pool 1
Section 1
Peg 2 - Tony Woodings - 37lb
Peg 8 - Stu O'Donnell - 29lb
Peg 4 - Rich Wells - 27lb
Peg 5 - Andy Kind - 22lb
In the middle section, four adjacent pegs dominated the results with Albert Bray taking top spot.
Section 2
Peg 18 - Albert Bray - 23lb
Peg 19 - Rich Bedder - 17lb
Peg 17 - Steve Conway - 16lb
Peg 16 - Rob Harvey - 5lb
In the final section Gordon Parker was top, also taking the top weight on the complex with 39lb. Gary Miller had a good start with a 12lb carp on his first cast! This helped along towards his second place. There was a bit of a battle for third and fourth, Jarrad had made a pact with Chris Needham to fish a ‘proper’ pole match and catch silver fish. Now I have been on the end of one of Jarrad’s pacts before “I'll fish the feeder if you stay on the pole” needless to say he battered me on the pole after I had caught a few! Well they say a leopard is always spotty and Jarrad was soon on the tip once Chris was getting in front on the silvers. Chris retaliated quickly, he wasn't going to risk going home without his family chinky. Jarrad ended up being chippied but he did get his money back for forth place.
Section 3
Peg 20 - Gordon Parker - 39lb
Peg 22 - Gary Miller -26lb
Peg 24 - Chris Needham - 22lb
Peg 23 - Jarrad Smith -18lb
Down on pool 6 the fishing was hard. Dave Colkin also suffered a bit of random casting, but repairs to his rig caught him three carp and along with four good bream won the section easily. Gary Saddler had five bream for second and I scrapped in just two ounces in front of Kerry Dyson with three bream and around thirty minute roach, Mr Ward’s favourites.
Pool 6
Peg 93 - Dave Colkin - 23lb
Peg 90 - Gary Saddler - 9lb
Peg 96 - Kev Russell - 7lb 2oz
Peg 89 - Kerry Dyson - 7lb
The first 3 pegs were tops in pool 7 with Frog Pot Chris Allen showing his travelling partner ACE Chris Downs how it's done at the next peg. Domonic was able to relax a bit with Team Abacus not attending and was back to form in third place.
Pool 7
Peg 100 - Chris Allen - 25lb
Peg 99 - Chris Downs - 23lb
Peg 102 - Dom Lanni - 19lb
Peg 105 - Keith Hudson - 11lb
