exit from archiveOur marquee at the Glebe is now a temporary grotto for the festive period, it will be used to store the toys. The piles of toys thrown out of prams by some of the Mallory members has increased dramatically after Sunday’s cold event. Mr Ward was not feeling so gratuitous this week and announced at the draw that he would be paying out less that he takes in, this was to make up for his shortfall last week. Humbug!
A few of the Makin refugees were glad to be getting back to the Glebe. In the first section on pool 1, Chris Needham had a great catch of 101lb from peg 4 and was looking forward to going to the Chinese to deposit his winnings. Robber Roy, who coached him most of the match, commented what a good performance it was and no toys were found at the peg. Young Jarrad, who was only a couple of pegs away, commented, "I knew we would not find any toys at Chris’s peg, why do you think Chris’s nickname is Jew Boy", now that could be racist. Steve Conway added several nice teddies behind peg 1 to accompany the massive pile from our very own Dagga Ward from the previous week. With the light failing fast and with Steve missing at the weigh-in a search party was organised, he had mysteriously disappeared. The match committee was just about to call the police when they were told that a vehicle matching the description of Steve’s was seen going out of the gate in Night Rider stealth mode. We do not know if Steve had an emergency or if he had had a bad day. Don't hassle the Conway.
The job of weighing in goes to the lucky angler that is gifted enough to draw the end peg on pool 1, apparently it was too hard for him to have to look at all the fish that were caught in his section. Bob Eaton was witnessed and can be quoted "it must have been an emergency as Steve has a god given right to always catch lots of fish". Another angler missing at the weigh-in was Gordon Priddey who was chip shopped. Although a thorough search was conducted we could not find any toys, Jarrad commented that he was rather like scrooge and did not believe in Christmas, now that is hurtful. We are now beginning to see why Jarrad may be getting his weights handicapped.
Pool 1
Section 1
Peg 4 - Chris Needham - 101lb
Peg 2 - Carl Williams - 38lb
Peg 8 - Jarrad Smith - 23lb
In section two, man of the match was our top Team Abacus member Gringo Clayton, who not only battered Robber Marlow at the next peg but also won his section, well done Rob. Rob used superb watercraft and steadfastly sat on his box to watch his three fish. Robber Marlow at the next peg, for very little of the match, wore out a pair of wellingtons and spent more time walking than fishing.
Ian Saiger has now learned the act of weighing in. It was said that the money wasn't the reason, it was just so he could phone the 'ACE' and tell him Steve Conway had spat the dummy and chucked back.
Section 2
Peg 12 - Rob Clayton - 12lb
Peg 14 - John Palmer - 9lb
Peg 17 - Ian Saiger - 7lb
This week Bob Eaton had drawn me his favourite diving board, peg 25. It didn't look a good draw as the previous week Rob Bowser had chucked back 50lb as it was last in the section. I was luckily gifted with five small carp caught on the bomb on the far side. Rob Bowser had actually drawn next to me on 23 and claimed to have caught two small carp early on, he caught skimmers on the pole well in the last hour. At the weigh-in it was very close. Rob's two small carp weighed in at 13lb! Along with his skimmers he weighed 25lb. I was lucky that my five small carp pulled the scales down to 28lb!
Section 3
Peg 25 - Kev Russell - 28lb
Peg 23 - Rob Bowser - 25lb
Peg 18 - Stu Johnson - 23lb
Pool 4 once again saw Albert Bray on a shed full of carp weighing 71lb to blitz the section, Gordon Parker was at the next peg in second, and Gary Miller kept up his good run in third.
Pool 4
Peg 69 - Albert Bray - 71lb
Peg 67 - Gordon Parker - 44lb
Peg 73 - Gary Miller - 37lb
Pool 5 once again saw Rob Hollis draw an end peg, one he had not had before, he made good of it weighing around eight big fish for 69lb. Rich Bedder was second from the other end, not strictly the end peg but still a very good draw!
Pool 5
Peg 85 - Rob Hollis - 69lb
Peg 67 - Rich Bedder - 54lb
Peg 81 - Max Higgott - 19lb
Pool 6 was once again dominated by little girl's peg 86, Carl Redman catching more than the rest of the lake added together. John Duncan was second from the next peg in. One of Robber Roy’s walking trips was from pool 1 down to pool 6 to prevent our little Elf, Dagga, from throwing himself in. Robber had phoned the Elf several times during the match and was very worried, he thought that an adult should make certain he was okay. John Duncan was pegged next to him but Nasty Kind later told us that John could not be classed as an adult. Dagga pulled through and came good at the end and used great talent to cast to a shoal of fish he had seen ‘topping’ he caught several fish for 8oz. Mr Ward commented "they were mainly small fish and there were no netters among them". He now has a tactic for the rest of the season as these specimens will be able to slip through the nets in January!
Pool 6
Peg 86 - Carl Redman - 46lb
Peg 88 - John Duncan - 15lb
Peg 92 - Mike Burrows - 3lb
Pool 7 was dominated by the low numbers with Gary Saddler top on the first peg used, with Mark Davis and Domonic in the runner up places.
Pool 7
Peg 99 - Gary Sadler - 69lb
Peg 101 - Mark Davis - 52lb
Peg 103 - Domonic Lanni - 26lb
We had a birthday boy fishing with us on Sunday, it was the pensioner, alias Brian Envis, he did not wish us to mention his age, but we can now report that he is the oldest member in the club, and perhaps he did receive card from the Queen.
With Chris Allen away this week, trying to win a Christmas hamper in the local fur & feather for his pal ACE Chris Downs, there were end pegs made available and is was noted that several anglers have closed the gap on him.
