Paul Parker - equal first on pool 6

Paul Parker - equal first on pool 6

Winter league update provided by Kev Russell:

The match attendances have swollen in recent weeks and Sunday's match saw 41 anglers at the draw so we decided to put an easy section of 5 pegs on pool 5. My usual peg drawer, Bob, is still in hospital on the road to recovery so I asked Scott to draw me a peg, he did well, drawing me peg 103 down on pool 7. I arrived at my peg to find Andy Kind to my left and Leicester's professional Angler Steve Porter to my right. I had been informed that both were out to give me a good battering. The match started slowly. Andy caught the first carp and added two more before I caught my first one. Steve was quick to ask me what I had caught it on, 'hair rigged bread' I informed him. I then had two more to pull level with Andy. Steve then asked if I was popping up the bread and I told him exactly how I was presenting the bait. I decided to have a go on the pole as Andy had started to catch a few smaller carp on his pole line. I quickly had a few good skimmers but had noticed Steve had got a good carp on the bomb rod. I asked him what he had caught it on, 'secret bait' was his reply, now that's one for the record.

After this the rest of the match descended into full-on banter between the three of us with even Honest Jim and Trevor joining in further up the lake. At one point Steve had cast out and sat for 10 minutes with his bread hanging on the grass opposite him and then objected because I hadn't told him. In fact his bait was on the far bank that many times I suggested that he should get himself a suveran rod!

In the last half hour it looked to be a real close match with us all taking a few fish. I must add that Steve had even stooped to the level of cheering as I lost a good fish. Steve had captured three really big fish and I think was quite confident when the scales went to 44lb, but I had the last laugh weighing 52lb. Andy had 37lb to come in third.

Pool 6 was very quiet, with a few new faces and some very tight battles. At the scales it turned out to be a draw with Paul Parker on peg 86 and Chris Allen on peg 89 both weighing 25lb 12oz. New member John Hall took a fine catch of silver fish for third with 20lb. This lake had fished very hard with three anglers frightened to weigh-in.

The easy section on pool 5 was won by Roy with 58lb of feeder caught carp. John Duncan was at the next peg and came in second with 30lb. Paul Bates had lost a couple of the lake monsters and had to settle for third with 25lb.

Pool 1 section 1 was won by league leader Andy Towers at peg 9 with 30lb, Gordon Priddey came in a very close second with 29lb and Albert Bray third with 26lb. The middle section 2 was won easily by Mike Phipps with around 20 carp for a brilliant 82lb from peg 16. Domonic was second from peg 12 with 54lb and Scott brown just pipped Carl Redman by ounces for third place with 35lb 7oz. Section 3 was the hardest with another new member Matt Hall recovering from an early morning hangover to take top spot with 21lb. Dagga was second with 17lb and Stu O'Donnell third with 9lb.

Most had enjoyed a good close match and it was encouraging to see some of the new stock fish turning up in the nets at the weigh-in.
