Bob drawing-hand Eaton
Match report provided by Kev Russell:
A north-easterly wind was with us again for this match and 23 anglers had turned up to fish. We decided to peg pool 1, from peg 11 up to peg 29, and we were also going to use pools 6 & 7. The draw was delayed slightly due to the winter league prize presentation, but the anglers were soon on the way to their pegs. My 'drawing hand' Bob had pulled me the 'little girls peg', number 86 on pool 6, a good draw but one that carries a certain amount of pressure. Nothing short of a win was expected from this peg, failures have been known to turn seasoned anglers into golfers. Bob also pulled out a peg for Chris Needham, who is always late for the draw. He drew peg 97, the opposite end of pool 6, the fish were going to be at either end, we thought. I sounded the all-in at 10:30 and I was soon into a fish on the bomb with bread across tight to the far bank, and soon there were also a few anglers with fish in the net. I could see and hear the anglers on pool 7 and Dagga was directly opposite me. Seemed like he was getting undressed, apparently there had been a bit of practical joking at the draw and something had found its way into his trousers, strange goings on. The fishing was reported to be very slow in that pool and after a couple of hours Chris Needham was down at my peg contemplating going home. He had only caught a few small roach, I had five carp by this time and he carried on his walkabout, returning around 30 minutes later to sit down and catch eight or nine carp with his acquired information. The all-out soon came around and it was looking really close with me on eleven carp, Mr Paul Bates with four carp and a good catch of skimmers and Chris 'walkabout' with nine carp for an estimated 25lb.
We went around to weigh pool 7 first and a few had already gone home FTW (frightened to weigh) so Dagga was chuffed he wasn't last again. He apparently said he would have caught more squirrels on his peg, if he had the nuts. It turned out the fish had shoaled at the other end of the pool and Kerry Dyson won with 26lb of skimmers and carp, followed very closely by Chris Allen with a similar catch of 24lb, practical joker Andy Kind was third with 16lb of skimmers. Onto pool 6, Chris Needham weighed first and had 29lb of carp, beating Mr Bates who weighed 25lb of skimmers. Scott Brown and Andy 'tackle shop' Towers had a running battle throughout the match with Scott coming out on top 1oz ahead with 14lb 14oz. I was last to weigh and put 38lb of carp on the scales for a section win, no need for golf clubs yet!
Up on pool 1 the early pegs had produced well, John Pagett having 45lb of pole caught skimmers from peg 11, with Rob Bowser having a similar catch on the next peg for 43lb, Chris Downs having 38lb next to him. At the other end it proved to be hard again, with Bob Eaton first with 12lb followed by John 'practical joker' Duncan on 8lb and Carl Redman having 7lb for third. Apparently Jim Chessman was still on peg 20 but his mobile house had been dismantled due to complaints to the local council. Bob 'drawing hand' Eaton was going to buy extra lottery tickets this week after drawing three end pegs; two winners and a second.
