Premier Fisheries/Pure Fishing Championship - qualifying round June 24th 2007

Sunday 24th June saw the first of the Mallory Park Fisheries qualifying rounds for the Premier Fisheries/Pure Fishing Championship.

In wet conditions 56 anglers had a great day with an average catch of around 90lbs per angler.

The members opted for the highest weighing four section winners to go through to the final and it was a close event. Many of the sections were split by only a few pounds between each angler.

Here is a run down of the top 3 placings in each of the 7 sections:

Pool 1

Section 1

Neil Russell 95 - 8 peg 12
Steve Porter 88 - 7 peg 3
Bob Eaton 85 - 4 peg 9

Section 2

Richard Morgan 159 - 8 peg 14
Matt Hall 123 - 8 peg 13
Andy Towers 94 - 4 peg 16

Section 3

Albert Bray 134 - 00 peg 28
Rich Bedder 125 - 8 peg 30
Chris Downs 113 - 12 peg 23

Pool 4

Jeff Reast 148 - 04 peg 70
Gary Miller 102 - 04 peg 66
Domonic Lanni 91 - 10 peg 67

Pool 5

Stu O'Donnell 158 - 04 peg 80
Pete Exton 125 - 10 peg 76
Carl Redman 118 - 00 peg 77

Pool 6

John Hall 133 - 8 peg 97
Gary Saddler 95 - 08 peg 94
Paul Gardener 92 - 02 peg 89

Pool 7

Andy Kind 142 - 02 peg 98
Gordon Parker 128 - 12 peg 100
Brian Envis 77 - 02 peg 101

The four qualifying anglers were:

Rich Morgan 159 - 08
Stu O'Donnell 158- 04
Jeff Rest 148 -04
Andy Kind 142 - 02

Various tactics worked with Rich Morgan and Jeff Rest catching on paste and Andy Kind on corn. All fished the pole and Stu O'Donnell caught on the feeder.

Over a dozen anglers had over 100lbs of fish and failed to qualify. This event must have been one of the closest fought matches of the weekend. Five lakes were used and every section required well over 100lbs to win. Every competing angler received a spool of 4lb Berkeley Sensation line and the four qualifiers all received a top of the range Abu feeder rod, courtesy of Pure Fishing.
