Chris Downs on pool 7
Mallory Big Lake was almost the scene of a major incident on Sunday. The circuit's fire trucks and ambulance crews were on stand-by as an epic battle took place between Rob Red-Bull Clayton and Ruthless Russell, pegged side by side on the pit bank. Rob had been high on the additives at breakfast, dishing out challenges to everyone after his crushing defeat of Mr Ward the previous week.
Halfway through the match it looked bad for Kev, who only had one carp and some small skimmers. Rob had 17 carp after being put right by Andy Kind who is trying to amass some brownie points, as he is the leading contender for the Nasty Trophy.
Rob was first to weigh with 68lb, having estimated 89lb. At that stage Kev phoned the ambulance and fire trucks to stand down. It was close but a good catch of around 200 skimmer bream saved his bacon, weighing in a credible 72lb.
Mr Ward was again up to no good. We all knew that he had drawn a very good peg with a big willow tree for cover. Obviously it was going to be hard to explain how he had not caught under the feature and some how the tree had magically disappeared. Mr Ward can now be called Chain Saw Ward as after the match he was seen carrying a large black bag to his car.
It was a close match on the Big Lake grass bank with spodder Duncan winning the day, giving Robber Marlow a good battering. John weighed in 113lb of carp, even after Robber had estimated John's weight almost to the ounce, John's estimate was out by over 20lb, saving a relieved Red Bull Rob, and meaning that John had to buy the ice creams.
The other lakes fished well with Chris Alan winning the Foundation Lake with 134lb. John Hall won the other section with 114lb. It has been asked to point out that Mr Porter (Leicester’s Professional Angler) caught 99lb and came second in his section. He did not know any of the other results. He did however say that he fished an awesome match from the worst peg on the lake. I am not supposed to say, but he reckons if he had drawn where John Hall was pegged they would still be weighing him in.
Matt Hall won pool 6 with 114lb and Ace, sponsored, TV star, Fish-o-mania finalist and international angler Chris Downs won pool 7 with 70lb.
