Winter league report provided by Kev Russell:
The weather was looking a little kinder for this week's match and 51 anglers had come along to fish. Rob Clayton has now officially taken on the job of booking everyone in at the draw, his early attempts at this were a bit worrying, but he now seems to have the hang of the job and remembers to count himself in!! I think the Red Bull is helping and from his latest results it is also paying dividends during the matches.
This Sunday was also the nomination day for the Nasty Trophy and Roy had prepared voting papers listing the 13 anglers that had carefully been nominated by the committee. All the anglers had to do was give a vote of 1 to who they considered the most hurtful and nasty and then 2, 3, 4 etc. in order of nastiness. Rumour has it that Roy had in fact pulled a stroke, taking into account that a lot of the match anglers wouldn't be able to read the nominations, never mind the rules of filling out the form. Roy and Dagga were also in charge of counting the votes, and it seemed an awful lot of voting papers were being deemed void. Roy soon announced that the vote was too close to call and it would have to be put into 'his' computer to find the winner.
On to the fishing. Bob had not done any magic at the draw this week, and I was back down to the middle of pool 6 where I had suffered a disaster a few weeks ago. I set up the feeder for tight across, and rigs for a long and short pole line. To cut the story short I only caught two carp, which was at least one more than last time, one on the pole and one on the feeder. The first few pegs in the lake fished quite well though with John Palmer, on peg 89, winning the section. John fished a long pole throughout the day alternating between 14 and 16 metres and was rewarded with eight carp for 39lb.
Pool 7 was hard for most but Rich Wells on peg 99 got among a few carp to win with 25lb. Paul Bates, on peg 84, had a good win on pool 5 taking 26lb to the scales, and Dom Lanni took the win on pool 4 with 21lb from peg 71.
Up on pool 1 there were some good weights again in the first section and despite being called on his mobile 12 times by a mystery caller Mr Ward, on peg 5, managed to pull off another win with a top weight on the day of 46lb. In the middle section Gordon Parker, on peg 11, won easily catching 35lb more than anyone else in the section. The last section was won by young Jarrad Smith with a 23lb weight from peg 26.

Rob Clayton you will notice was in the frame again, for the third time in three weeks, apparently a certain energy drink company are soon to approach him with some form of sponsorship. It was also noted that the names of both Dan Hull and Dave Caulkin now need to be added to the medallion, having both failed to weigh anything either side of Rob.
It was evident that Young Dan had obviously not expended enough energy trying to catch a fish as he and a well known tackle dealer from South Wigston spent the whole of the weigh-in rolling around on the grass together down on pool 6. I think they call it male bonding these days!!!
A phone call at 3.15pm (the match ended at 3.30pm) to Leicester's Professional Angler revealed that the Stealth Car was warming up for a silent getaway. The excuse was that the girlfriend had made a hot pie for him!!!
And finally I have just had confirmation, from Roy’s computer, that Mr Ward has once again won the 'Nasty Trophy'. Apparently Roy is soon to be travelling to Caracas, Venezuela, to assist with some election voting, they have obviously heard of his unbiased and thorough handling of the nasty ballot.
