Nice Andy Kind
Match report provided by Kev Russell:
The final Sunday match in our 2005/2006 season promised to be a bit better than we've seen recently, with the first mild weekend this year and a strong SW wind blowing. A few of the fine weather anglers had even shown up. At the draw, 26 anglers were pegged on pools 1, 6 & 7. The drawing hand had found me a good peg again, peg 7 on pool 1, and I had a good view from the middle of the section; a section of Mallory superstars I might add.
The match all-in was called and it was soon evident that winter league champion Chris Downs was on a shed full at peg 3, catching carp from the off on bomb with bread punch. Gary Miller was soon into carp on peg 5 using similar tactics. I had no joy on the bomb and was first out on the pole. I was soon into a run of big skimmers, this soon got the poles out along the pool and the battle then began with everyone in my section catching all species of fish. There was the usual kidding along and no one was sure who had what. Andy Kind had been very quiet behind his brolly and hadn't even phoned me. At the weigh-in Chris Downs had 98lb, including 40lb of silvers, for a section win. He promised to thank Gordon Parker for practising and feeding the peg the day before. Quiet Andy Kind was second with a mostly silver catch of 79lb, and I scraped in third with 78lb, including 45lb of silvers. I had beaten Chris Needham by ounces and he accused me of negative psychology, whatever that is! He weighed 77lb and the back-up weights were all over 60lb. The bottom section was just as close with Chris Allen coming out tops with 63lb of carp, Dagga Ward was second with 61lb of carp and Carl Redman third with 50lb. He later claimed he could of won if he hadn't lost a battle with a massive fish estimated to be well over 15lb. After the battle it was noticed that he had to pay a couple of visits to the Glebe toilet facilities.
The bottom pools also fished well and despite the fact that the Parkers had been practising on pool 1 intensely the previous day they were both in the money on pool 6. Gordon 'dad' Parker winning with 81lb from peg 88 and Paul 'son' Parker having 63lb from the little girl's peg 86 for third. Bob the-draw was on his usual peg 96 and winkled out 63lb for second. He's been on that peg so regular that he's thinking of asking Jim Chessman for his bivvy.
Pool 7 was won by one of the fine weather anglers, Steve Porter, having 70lb on the pole from peg 100. John Duncan was still there at the end weighing 50lb for second, and Trevor Slater came in third, close behind with 47lb. All in all a brilliant match to finish the season and a real shame that Roy had missed all the action. I know he had been waiting for some good weather to try the new secret baits and rigs that he had shown me a few weeks ago.
And finally, Dagga asked for a special mention for Fred 'dusty' Bates who hasn't fished with us for ages but gave a tremendous performance fishing to a plan and having 66lb of silver fish on the caster, well done Fred.
