exit from archiveWinter league report provided by Kev Russell:
A frosty morning was beginning to warm up as we did the draw, 47 anglers this week, even some of the fine weather anglers had turned out to fish. There were a few reports of good catches on the Saturday and throughout the week - the over practicers had been fishing hard.

Oadby tackle dealer Pete Wooton with the top weight on pool 1
It was evident to me doing the draw that Steve Conway knew something I didn't, as when he drew out peg 86 he even blushed, I don't know whether it was embarrassment or relief of drawing another flier. I also noted that league leader Dom Lanni was all smiles, having pulled out peg 99. Mr Ward was also very happy at the draw, he had drawn next to Scott Brown so he had someone to torment. We think he may have been a little lonely through the week without his mate Robber to play with. I had drawn peg 18, a peg I had done well from a fortnight ago. I had drawn next to John 'Spodder' Duncan, on 19, and he was threatening to fill it in with his secret high protein mix. I was going to be careful and just fish the straight lead across and the pole with maggot over a few casters at 12m.
I foul hooked a good fish early on, which came off!!, and then another shortly after which I managed to get in the net, I was happy to have a point!!
My match never really got going after that, the feeder was starting to pay off for John and he was putting the odd fish in the net. I could also see Young Jarrad catching well on the pole at the end of our section on 21 and Chris Allen up on 13 was also catching. In the end I decided to put a bit of ground bait in for the skimmers on the pole and had a few casts on the feeder across, I did manage one carp over, and the pole produced some good skimmers. In the end it was good enough for 4th. John took the section with 12 carp and a few skimmers for 47lb on his positive approach, Young Jarrad took second and also another scalp, embryoing ACE Chris Downs at the next peg, Chris Allen coming in third.

Honest Jim Chessman - winner of section 3
The first section was won easily by Oadby Tackle dealer Pete Wooton on peg 2 taking 101lb of carp to the scales. Scott Brown was second with 86lb and he let Mr Ward have a few casts in his peg to give him 3rd with 56lb. The end section saw a deserved win for Jim Chessman and as usual Jim guessed his weight within ounces, putting 24lb on the scales. It was a close affair though with Kerry Dyson only a pound behind on 23lb, Dave Hough came in third.
As we weighed in on pool 1 rumours spread of some terrific catches and some disasters on the other lakes. Paul Gardener had taken the win on pool 4 from the middle of the lake on peg 71 with Bill Pryce in second and Ringo in third on the pegs either side. Pool 5 was won from peg 84, were I had nearly blanked last week!!, Ian Saiger taking 60lb to the scales, Paul Bates continued his run of form coming in second with Karl Gillet in third.
Down on the bottom lakes it had really been a case of feast or famine, Dom Lanni cleaned up on pool 7 with 73lb from the fancied peg 99, whilst poor Stu O'Donnell failed to get a bite at the other end of the lake. Mr Ward suggested that he will have to start practising on the bad pegs!! Nasty. O.A.P. Brian Envis was second on pool 7 but denied rumours that he had caught a fish before the whistle!! John Palmer was third.
On pool 6, Steve Conway's face was even brighter as he had caught a massive 142lb of carp on the bread feeder from the little girl's peg 86. It was almost double the weight of second place man Chris Hall who had a very good weight of 73lb at the next peg. John Hall was in third place with 40lb.

John 'the spod' Duncan - winner of section 2
And finally, unfortunately I have only had few rumours this week. I was slipped a little note though, it told a story of a famous professional angler from Leicester, who even after he received advice on how to load up his shiny new trolley for a jaunt along the towpath, managed to loose all of his tackle after just a few steps. We believe the 'Porn Baron' and an Oadby Tackle dealer must have given him some bum info. Apparently the trolley is now for sale on a famous auction web site.
It's funny what fame does to a man and his name, it seems we have been spelling Pryce and Colkin wrong for quite a while and it has only come to notice when their names were up for the world to see on this site
There was again lots of talk of pies and Ginster etc. and Mr Ward is looking to sponsor a team in the Melton cup, as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone's personal sponsorship. There was also an appeal for rigs and some casting tuition for Andy Kind, as he is hopefully making a comeback soon, and he is getting his excuses together already!!
