Report provided by Kev Russell:

Saturday was a cold but bright day and a few had ventured out to practice on the match lakes. A few fish were caught and the reports had reached most of the regulars that the lakes were all clear of ice ready for the match the following day.

The weathermen had got it right though this week and there was a very severe frost reaching as low as -12c in parts of the UK. I had registered -7c on the drive down to Leicester and had already made my mind up not to fish. I was surprised to see how many had turned out to fish. After a walk around the frozen lakes the number of anglers on the bank wanting to fish had probably halved to around 20 anglers!! We had decided to cancel this match from the league.

In fact 21 anglers pegged out around pools 4, 6 & 7 and a good bit of ice breaking was needed to clear the pegs for pole fishing. I walked around for an hour but didn't see any fish caught on pools 6 & 7.

Pool 6 had actually turned into a insult match I think, with almost everyone having a go. Only young Jarrad, who hasn't learned enough nastiness yet, and Paul Bates, who I am sure thinks of much nicer things while he fishes, sat quietly. As I walked up to pool 4, I saw John Hall catch a good sized perch on the long pole and Chris Allen had reportedly caught a big carp, although he said it was only 1 lb, but he is not very honest.

I left them to it and was surprised to see most had caught a few fish. Mr Scott Brown kindly e-mailed me the results. Here they are. Well done.

Pool 4
Chris Allen - 21lb 8oz - peg 72
John Hall - 18lb 10oz - peg 70
Carl Redman - 6lb 2oz - peg 68
Gary Sadler - 4lb 12oz - peg 69
Bob Eaton - 4lb 6oz - peg 71

Pool 6
Steve Conway - 25lb 12oz - peg 87
Stu O'Donnell - 21lb 1oz - peg 93
Scott Brown - 18lb 11oz - peg 95
Dagga - 3lb 4oz - peg 90

Pool 7
Chris Downs - 14lb 11oz - peg 105
Rob Harper - 11lb 0oz - peg 106
Dave Hunter - 3lb 12oz - peg 103

And finally by the lack of snide reports Mr Marlow is very concerned that there is a conspiracy to make it look like he writes this section.

We did have reports that the shops in Newbold were busy on Thursday 14th. Mr Paul Bates was seen doing his shopping in the florist by Mr Scott Brown waiting outside, Mr Brown even felt the need to capture the event with his mobile's camera. It was suggested that Scott was also waiting to go into the florist's, but apparently the pie & chip shop is next door. I was told not to mention this as they do not sell Ginster's pies.

There were also reports of nastiness on the Saturday practice session. Scott had gone down for an ice check and had got seriously abused by Ringo and Bob Eaton for sky lining their swims, serious stuff. When asked about the matter on Sunday, Ringo added that he thought the sun had gone in. Mr Brown then added that the pair were very much like Statler and Waldorf from the muppet show.
