exit from archiveA dull blustery day for this week's winter league match, the wind was from the south west and the conditions looked good for a few fish. Mr Ward handled the draw magnificently considering his sidekick Rob the Eel wasn't at his side. There were very few insults this week as he was concentrating hard taking the pools and counting up the anglers. 48 anglers turned out to fish this week but there were a few regulars missing, most notably Robber Roy and Mr Ward commented that he would probably catch lots of fish this week as Roy had not prepared his bait for him!

Kerry Dyson with a 14 1/2lb carp
Rob the Eel had actually sent his apologies for not helping out his week as he had to take his better half to the airport. Andy Kind was one of the last at the draw, he had been to the Quorn car boot sale, looking for some bargains. He couldn't wait to tell everyone that Rob the Eel had actually drawn the end peg at the boot sale and was giving people money to take his kit off him. Andy commented that he was struggling to even give his kit away. We hope this was the case as we would not like to lose our most improved angler.
This week I will provide the results and go through a few of the reported events:
Pool 1
Section 1
Peg 1 - Dave West - 77lbs
Peg 8 - Pete Exton - 67lbs
Peg 4 - Bob Eaton - 53lbs
Section 2
Peg 17 - Ian Saiger - 113lbs
Peg 20 - Eric Burton - 81lbs
Peg 14 - Jim Chessman - 55lbs
Section 3
Peg 23 - Kerry Dyson - 89lbs
Peg 26 - Dom Lanni - 86lbs
Peg 30 - Jeff Reast - 78lbs
The only reports we had from pool 1, were that poor Jarrad was getting battered by his mentor, honest Jim Chessman. Jarrad was apparently whinging to Scott Brown on the phone all day long about how well he was fishing and struggling to catch and yet Jim could cast anywhere and catch a fish!
Pool 4
Peg 74 - Dave Hunter - 92lbs
Peg 73 - John Duncan - 81lbs
Peg 67 - Stu O'Donnell - 60lbs
Pool 4 threw up a surprise win for Glebe Champion Dave Hunter. Dave really did not fancy peg 74 as he had struggled from it the week before. It just goes to show that the fish do swim about! John Duncan also had a good day at the next peg and stayed for the weigh in. Stu O'Donnell at the other end of the lake took third spot with a few big fish very late in the day. It was hard in the middle of the lake with Mr Ward and Lichfield's Bob Conway having their own separate 'canal' match , both having brilliant 'canal' weights but Dagga came out tops with 7lbs of roach and an accidental 7lb carp that scared his redfins away!
Pool 5
Peg 85 - Gary Miller - 112lbs
Peg 76 - Rich Wells - 81lbs
Peg 78 - Mark Davis - 79lbs
The middle of pool 5 was also difficult with a couple of anglers frightened to weigh in. The end pegs again did the damage with some really big fish, the last two week's matches have both produced fish nearing 20lbs.
Pool 6
Peg 87 - Gordon Parker - 106lbs
Peg 90 - Gary Sadler - 80lbs
Peg 86 - Dave Colkin - 71lbs

Gordon Parker, winner on pool 6
I had drawn on pool 6 and was unfortunate to draw between bagging machines Gordon Parker and Gary Sadler. They both swore blind before the weigh-in that my catch was greater than theirs but alas Gordon was around 50lbs out with his prediction and Gary had pinched 15lbs of silvers in between his carp, this gave them 1st and 2nd with Dave Colkin coming in third from the little girl's peg. I finished up in fourth spot and in fact only a few pounds separated the rest of us in the section. Gary had also asked me to mention that he had been misquoted last week and it was not him that had suggested MINKY Downs should chuck his pole in the skip. This could have something to do with them fishing in a pairs match this coming weekend, not good if Chris is still sulking!
Pool 7
Peg 100 - Steve Conway - 76lbs
Peg 107 - Rob Bowser - 72lbs
Peg 98 - Carl Redman - 71lbs

Storyteller Conway
Pool 7 was also the scene of some story telling, Steve Conway only admitting to half his eventual winning weight. It also appears that he may be behind the pole in the skip story. This lake was also a very close match with only ounces separating the other places.
And finally I am making up a photo gallery of members so you can put faces to their antics, you can view them here.
