Sunday 26th October 2008

A return to GMT meant everyone had an extra hour in bed, but still some of the anglers were late for the draw at 9am. Pegs won't be put in next week if anglers are not at or confirmed to be coming to the draw. You have been warned. Forty three of the forty four pegs were drawn this Sunday and the results again show the fishing provided a very close match, in most sections there were only a few pounds between places.

One angler that was way in front of the competition though was Dom Lanni, who drew peg 8 in the first section on pool 1. Alternating between the long pole and feeder Dom put a brilliant 148lbs onto the scales. The rest of the section struggled to put a weight together with Gary Sadler and Gordon Parker fighting it out for second and third places. We had reports during the match from as far away as Central London about how bad Paul Bates’ casting was! Even Honest Jim at the next peg had allegedly poked fun at poor Mr Bates, adding that it had taken him ages to set the concrete sleepers in the far bank and Paul was trying to pull them out, 'when he managed to cast that far'.

Pool 1
Section 1
Peg 8 - Dom Lanni - 147lbs
Peg 4 - Gary Sadler - 32lbs
Peg 5 - Gordon Parker - 27lbs

Section 2 was won by in-form angler Gary Miller, he was looking forward to another good catch of skimmers from the same area he had caught them a few week earlier, the carp had other ideas though so he had to settle for a net full of them instead.

Section 2
Peg 14 - Gary Miller - 65lbs
Peg 17 - Bill Pryce - 58lbs
Peg 12 - Jim Chessman - 43lbs

There were more reports from London about section 3. Apparently young Jarrad was in despair three hours into the match with only a 3oz roach to show for his efforts, he had to go walkies up the lake to see his mentor, Jim, for some advice and counselling. This must have done the trick as he returned to his peg and managed to sneak a few carp to gain third position. Robber Roy was given master of the match for a brave decision to fish the waggler at 20m. It paid of with a mixed catch of species to give Roy the section win.

Section 3
Peg 23 - Roy Marlow - 41lbs
Peg 24 - Carl Redman - 30lbs
Peg 29 - Jarrad Smith - 18lbs

Keith Hudson took no advice at all from Mr Ward about peg 71 and went on to comfortably win pool 4. Another notable catch in this lake was made by second placed angler Paul Gardener - he only put 4 fish onto the scales but they weighed 53lbs between them!

Pool 4
Peg 71 - Keith Hudson - 78lbs
Peg 68 - Paul Gardener - 53lbs
Peg 70 - Pete Exton - 52lbs

New member Paul Bolsover was at the front of the section again on pool 5 taking 61lbs of carp on hair-rigged boilies on the pole. Rob Hollis and Kerry Dyson kept up their good form to finish in second and third places.

Pool 5
Peg 80 - Paul Bolsover - 61lbs
Peg 76 - Rob Hollis - 54lbs
Peg 84 - Kerry Dyson - 42lbs

Gordon Priddey was careful not to be to outspoken about his 'bad' draw at the far end of pool 6, and was pleasantly surprised to catch well on the pole. It was suggested by sources in London that the fish believed they were safe at that end of the lake as Rob 'the eel' was at the next peg! Eric Burton had some large fish to 13lbs on the margin pole to take second in the lake. Tim Palmer was just behind in third on the little girlies peg.

Pool 6
Peg 96 - Gordon Priddey - 72lbs
Peg 92 - Eric Burton - 54lbs
Peg 86 - Tim Palmer - 48lbs

My drawing hand Bob Eaton had done the business again for me this week pulling me out peg 108. It was evident there were a lot of fish in my peg as we could see a lot of them crashing about on the far side of the lake before we started. A great day on the feeder produced 14 carp including one of 14½lbs. All were taken on hair-rigged punched bread.

Bob Conway, at the next peg, had me worried at one stage when he began to take a skimmer every drop in on the short pole. His mixed fish weight of 54lbs was plenty good enough for second though. Stu O'Donnell managed to come in third, even after breaking his pole once again. Stu was also seen going for a walk with Mr Ward to the far bank. It was suggested that the practice has now developed into a shared tactic, as it is harder to spot two anglers feeding the far bank at the same time. It must be noted that Mr Ward was fourth in the section, even scaring Jeff Reast and Rich Morgan into putting their fish back and having an early ride back to Nottingham!

Pool 7
Peg 108 - Kev Russell - 82lbs
Peg 106 - Bob Conway - 54lbs
Peg 98 - Stu O'Donnell - 40lbs

And finally, you may be wondering how our match results were known as far away as the capital city, well, Scott Brown was on a jolly with a good friend. A few suggestions were put forward for his trip, perhaps to see if there were any jobs with the Beefeaters, although this was dismissed when he found out that they didn't really eat burgers. Another suggestion was that he was load testing Tower Bridge, nasty.

Russelli.
