exit from archiveRoy's fishing trip to Cuba had been cancelled due to hurricane Paloma but it seemed as if the wind had come to the UK to see him. A very strong southerly wind was getting up by the time we got to the draw and the forecast was for even stronger wind during the day, plus heavy showers.

Stu O'Donnell
We had 38 anglers at the draw. A few of the regulars were still missing though, Andy Kind, John Duncan and Match Catch’s Andy Towers were still all recovering from battling 30lb French carp. All three were shown how to do it though by John's son who caught several fish over 40lb. Scott Brown wasn't with us again. Mr Ward suggested that he was saving up for another trip to London and a go on the London Eye, “it only costs £15” someone added, but Mr Ward was quick to point out that he was saving up for all the other people to go on the other side to balance out the wheel! We were also a little concerned that young Jarrad Smith had not turned up this week, we have no information about his whereabouts at this time.
A draw with the wind over your back was needed today and my drawing hand Bob did me proud with peg 4 on pool 1. We started a little later this week, Roy signalled 11am with his shotgun and we had a 2 minute silence for remembrance. Roy once again fired his gun for the start of the match. An indication of the wind strength was that all Roy’s shotgun lead landed in the water in front of me - Roy was on pool 4 and had shot straight up!
Although the pole was easily fishable on the early pegs my main plan would be the liqqy bread feeder with hair-rigged bread punch. I was surprised though to have it pretty much to myself with all the other anglers in my section spending most of the match on the pole. The match went well with me catching around 15 carp to 10lb and a section win. John Palmer had a good day on the skimmers at peg 16 to finish second with 40lb and Mick Python Moore was surprised to finish in third, so surprised in fact that he had already paid out his side bet of £1 to Tim Palmer, convinced that Tim had beaten him - he hadn’t, but Tim had the money. There must be a moral in that.
Pool 1
Section 1
Peg 4 - Kev Russell - 78lbs
Peg 16 - John Palmer - 40lbs
Peg 12 - Mick Moore - 26lbs
Dave Colkin had a fine win in the second section of pool 1, his all-carp catch of 67lbs were all taken on chocolate boilies. Paul Bolsover was second with Carl Redman in third with a great catch of mainly crucian carp from peg 24.
Section 2
Peg 18 - Dave Colkin - 67lbs
Peg 20 - Paul Bolsover - 36lbs
Peg 24 - Carl Redman - 32lbs
Angling legend Bob Eaton had drawn two fliers this week, mine and his, he bagged up a few big carp to win pool 4 from hot peg 74. Hurricane-survivor Roy apparently suffered abuse all day from Mark Davis but got his own back at the weigh-in beating Mark by just a few pounds.
Pool 4
Peg 74 - Bob Eaton - 45lbs
Peg 70 - Roy Marlow - 30lbs
Peg 71 - Mark Davis - 26lbs
Strange goings on in pool 5, the committee are investigating some illegal tactics. Stu O'Donnell, who you may recall broke his pole a few weeks ago, had to don his bathing suit to recover the same piece of pole section, apparently it had cost him a few quid to get it mended and would have broken his heart to lose it. The committee are investigating if this trip into the water somehow aided his match as he was easily the winner with 76lbs and won enough to break another section. Gary Miller was second from peg 84 and Kerry Dyson third from his favourite lake - he has drawn on here for three weeks now and is getting to know the fish by name.
Pool 5
Peg 78 - Stu Odonnell - 76lbs
Peg 84 - Gary Miller - 50lbs
Peg 80 - Kerry Dyson - 43lbs
Bob Conway upset the form book on pool 6 by winning from peg 90, beating last week's pool 6 winner Rob Bowser into second and Eric Burton on the little girl's peg into third.
Pool 6
Peg 90 - Bob Conway - 69 lbs
Peg 92 - Rob Bowser - 37 lbs
Peg 86 - Eric Burton - 28 lbs
It was pay back time for Dom Lanni this week, beating Albert Bray by just 5lbs to take the win in pool 7. Gordon Parker was close behind in third place. Mr Ward, on peg 100, was once again not happy with his performance, he stated there were no fish in his peg, even though he sat between first and third placed anglers. He did add though that he was not last in the section and that Jim Chessman's run of good results were over.
Pool 7
Peg 104 - Dom Lanni - 67lbs
Peg 98 - Albert Bray - 62lbs
Peg 102 - Gordon Parker - 53lbs
And finally it was not only Stu O'Donnell that ended up in the water. Mr Paul Bates, who according to Scott was on another easy peg, had been calling Dom for some last minute pride-saving advice when his brand new phone slipped into the depths of peg 1. I'm sure no one will pull his leg with the usual O2 and landline jokes.
NEWS FLASH: The Glebe has had a high number of visiting cormorants. On Monday morning five of the birds were feasting on a massive shoal of fish that had huddled for safety in, you guessed it, Mr Ward's peg 100. Scott Brown added that the fish must have thought they were safe in that peg after Sunday!
