Paul Bolsover
Poor fishing conditions once again this weekend, with subzero overnight temperatures and a freezing cold north wind. Thirty seven anglers had turned out though to brave the conditions. Apologies were made for last week's blunder with the pegs, this was mainly to quell any more whinging and moaning. Whilst on this subject, there was also the monthly whinger's trophy to present. This month's winner was Paul Bolsover. His only comments were 'I was not whinging, just making intelligent observations' and 'anyone that knows me would know that I never whinge or moan'!
On to the fishing…
Pool 1 was a bit of a test this week as Roy had decided to turn on the aerators to see if they had any impact on the fishing - they may be needed if the cold weather keeps up to prevent a freeze-up. The first section saw the highest weights on this lake with Keith Hudson taking a brilliant winning weight of 78lbs on the bomb from peg 6. Team ABU’s Gary Saddler was in second place catching 50lbs of small carp on a sticky mag feeder and maggot hookbait from peg 1. . Tony Woodings was very close behind in third place from peg 4. Strangely peg 8 that has been unbeatable in the last few weeks threw a blank, Stu Johnson was unavailable for comment.
Pool 1
Section 1
Peg 6 - Keith Hudson - 78lbs
Peg 1 - Gary Saddler (TEAM ABU) - 50lbs
Peg 4 - Tony Woodings - 48lbs
The second section was a very closely fought match with everyone catching around a stone of fish until the last half hour. Albert Bray then shot out in front with 3 large carp in as many casts from peg 20. Team Abu’s Gordon Parker was in second with a catch of small silver fish to pole tactics and Chris Hall was only ounces behind in third.
Section 2
Peg 20 - Albert Bray - 34lbs
Peg 18 - Gordon Parker (TEAM ABU) - 16lbs
Peg 12 - Chris Hall - 15lbs
Pete Exton took the win in the final section. This was also a very close affair with Ian Saiger taking carp on the waggler in second place and Rich Morgan catching three late fish from peg thirty just edging out Kerry Dyson for third.
Section 3
Peg 22 - Pete Exton - 31lbs
Peg 28 - Ian Saiger - 28lbs
Peg 30 - Rich Morgan - 26lbs

Bill Pryce
Pool 4 was very hard for most. Andy Kind had a desperate comeback, he was very concerned at the half way point when his nemesis, Rob the Eel, was a fish up with Andy on a blank. Andy finally fluked a couple of fish, according to Rob, to stave off another battering. John Palmer continued his run of wins with an easy victory, taking 61lbs on ledgered corn from peg 71. Tony Beresford took a gamble fishing for silver fish but put together a good net of skimmer bream which was easily good enough for second place with Andy's single fish giving him third.
On pool 5, Jeff Reast took advantage of the fancied end peg 85 with a catch of 42lbs. Dave West came in second at the other end peg and Dom Lanni was third from the middle of the lake.
Pool 4
Peg 71 - John Palmer - 61lbs
Peg 72 - Tony Beresford - 19lbs
Peg 67 - Andy Kind - 9lbs
Pool 5
Peg 85 - Jeff Reast - 42lbs
Peg 77 - Dave West - 30lbs
Peg 81 - Dom Lanni (TEAM ABU) - 21lbs

Gary Miller
I had drawn Pool 6 this week, and with end peg expert Gary Miller on the little girl's peg 86 it looked like a fight for second place before we had even started. This was exactly the case with Gary bagging carp from the off. The fishing was hard for the rest of the competitors. I managed 5 carp on the bomb and hair-rigged bread fished tight to the far bank. These were complimented by 3 big skimmers on the pole with worm. This was enough to give me second place. Bob Conway had slipped into bad ways, probably learnt from his son, admitting to catching two small carp, he actually put two fish on the scales for 11½lbs. This gave him third place over Brian Hill who was very unlucky to lose a fish hooked on the long pole in difficult conditions. Oadby tackle dealer Pete Wooton caught one skimmer, did numerous rambles around the lakes, took a pound off Paul Gardener and then packed up early! Gary continued to catch throughout the match and finished up with a brilliant catch of 104lbs. The little girl's peg is once again the pressure peg.
Even after extensive over practice during the week the carp were still on the same pegs as last week in pool 7. Bill Pryce took top spot from peg 101 with Rob Hollis in second on peg 103. Paul Bolsover was reportedly very quiet during the match and finished in third place. Roy tried every trick in the book to get a bite from peg 109 but failed to trouble the scales. Mr Ward has offered counselling during the week.
Pool 6
Peg 86 - Gary Miller - 104lbs
Peg 90 - Kev Russell (TEAM ABU) - 24lbs
Peg 92 - Bob Conway - 11lbs
Pool 7
Peg 101 - Bill Pryce - 57lbs
Peg 103 - Rob Hollis - 44lbs
Peg 105 - Paul Bolsover - 24lbs

Rob Hollis
And finally from Mr Ward. I will be talking to the committee concerning bad conduct. Robber Marlow visited me twice during the match and pinched all of my coffee yet again. Word has it that Paul Whinger Bolsover was very quiet after winning the Whinger of the month award, however when quizzed about it he did say 'I was only whinging about winning the trophy, and I will point out that I am not tight'. We do not understand why he said that; other than to say that he thought everyone kept their rounds of bread for use in several matches through the winter. It was noticed that Paul had some bright red line on his reel, asked about what made it so special the answer was 'it was free with Angling Times, I saw it in the paper shop and borrowed the free spool of the cover, it did say it was free'. We think Jew Boy Chris Needham may lose his title.
We understand from a very reliable source that Mr Sporter did not go fishing at the weekend. We cannot reveal the name of the informer other than to say he owns a tackle shop in South Wigston. Apparently Mr Sporter went to his work's party dressed like a lady of the night, blond wig, high heels, frilly knickers, black stockings etc., or was it as a pantomime dame? If anyone can throw any more light on this story the committee wants to know as we should check if aspiring thespians are allowed to fish with us or even be allowed to be members. It was declared that whingers are allowed to join so long as they have their picture taken with the trophy, it is a good job we are digital with pictures or it would cost a lot in film to expose everyone who whinged.
Russelli.
