Sunday 7th December 2008

The presence of ice on all the lakes this weekend prevented us having a winter league qualifying match. As usual though our anglers were completely bonkers and turned up to fish, even if it meant breaking through sheets of ice. Roy had pulled a master stroke and activated the aerators on pool 1 on the Saturday afternoon as the water began to freeze. This had been quite successful the previous week, getting a few fish feeding in cold conditions. The temperature was only just starting to rise above -5C as the anglers were arriving on the Sunday morning, but the aerators had done a great job of keeping much of pool 1 free from ice.

After a bit of arm twisting 30 anglers were talked into parting with their pools money and every peg in pool 1 was to be used. Ice had formed on peg 1 and 2 behind the first aerator, on the bend in peg 10 through to 13, and at the far end from around peg 26. We decided on a 5 peg section format with hopefully three anglers returning a weight for the pools money.

The match was real proof that the aerators were worth switching on with almost every angler catching a fish. Gary Miller once again fished a brilliant match and finished with the top weight of 45lbs from peg 6, catching 8 carp on corn and bread at ¾ across and very tight to the far bank sleepers.

Rather than give a full breakdown of the final result here is a complete list of the results. For those that were wondering, FTW stands for frightened to weigh.

And finally, if you had trouble with your mobile phone network on Sunday afternoon around 3pm it could have been due to the vast number of calls made by Mr Psorter after he caught his one and only fish. It seems like he called the whole of the east midlands to inform them of his angling prowess. Mr Wdard even commented that it may even bring down a satellite due to overloading. Speaking of Mr Wdard, he would like it known that his casting has improved dramatically, although that could have been something to do with Mr Rkussell at the next peg having a camera with a long lens, and this was preventing him from his usual ventures to the far bank to feed.

Russelli.
