exit from archiveHappy New Year to you all!
I must apologise to anyone who had been logging on for our weekly reports but work commitments and then Christmas came a bit sudden this year. I have only just managed to catch up with things.

Rob Hollis
I will start with a match from the 14th December. Unfortunately I had to miss this match due to the aforementioned work commitments but a few reports managed to reach me after the event. You may remember the week prior to this match the fishery had been partially iced over with only the aerators saving the day on pool 1. Now this was the reason for the first teddy being thrown out of the pram. Pro angler and TEAM ABU superstar Steve Conway was not happy fishing in a peg with the aerator opposite, in fact it was reported to me that he constantly whinged and whined all day about how the fish were put off by the moving water. He was apparently even whining when he collected his winnings for the section win!
The second teddy to be tossed out of the pram was poor Keith Hudson’s. He was in the next peg to Mr Conway so it could have been catching. Keith managed to foul hook and land three 6lb fish, you would think this to be very lucky and that he would be pleased, but all three of the fish were barbel and unfortunately Keith had to let them go without troubling the scales.
I also received complaint from the fishery owner. Roy claims that he was constantly abused throughout the match by the anglers pegged next to him, it seems both John Duncan and Stu O'Donnell were finding it quite enjoyable that Roy was unable to catch a fish. There must be a lesson learned though when Roy had four fish in the last half hour to win the section.
Down on the bottom lakes were a few very quiet anglers. It was reported that the angler on the little girl's peg, whose name sounds like Paul Bolsover, was so unusually quiet that it was not noticed that he had sneaked off before the weigh-in. Much of pool 7 were also very quiet, except for Rob Clayton that is, he had one of his best catches this year to come in second place. Mr Ward said it must have been solid!

The last of group two’s winter league matches was on the 21st December. At the draw Steve Conway was presented with the monthly whinger award. As you have read, he had managed to pack a month's worth of whinging and whining into one day, giving Mr Ward a headache.
The week prior to the match had been very mild and the fishing was a bit better. Bob Eaton once again drew me a good peg, and after a good match I took top spot with 63lbs, all caught tight to the far bank on hair-rigged bread punch with a tiny bread feeder.

Match winner Brian Hill
We had a members match over Christmas and with water temperatures only just above their freezing point the fishing has still been good with almost everyone weighing in. A big shout-out must go to Brian Hill who managed to win his lake section comprehensively, even frightening a few anglers from weighing-in their catch. There are rumours about that Brian was under pressure from his good lady to get some results on to the Internet. Well done Brian. I had a bonus fish of 15lbs 8oz from peg 1 - this must be one of the largest fish in pool 1.
