exit from archiveThe big freeze-up cancelled our match last week so this was our first winter league match of the New Year and 37 anglers were spread along most of the pegs on pool 1 and also pools 4 and 5. Clear bright conditions and a cold westerly wind made conditions difficult. Most of the anglers opted to fish either the straight lead or a small feeder with bread, corn or maggots on the hook. Given the weather conditions some of the weights were incredible. Top weight on the day was had by Albert Bray taking 19 carp on peg 17. Carl Sutton also had a good catch on peg 4 taking 86lbs. Brian Hill carried on his winning form to take the second section against stiff competition from some pro anglers. The other results are listed below:
Pool 1
Section 1
Peg 4 - Carl Sutton - 86lbs
Peg 1 - Rob Hollis - 56lbs
Peg 2 - Gary Miller - 55lbs
Section 2
Peg 16 - Brian Hill - 32lbs
Peg 12 - Steve Conway (TEAM ABU) - 21lbs
Peg 11 - Gordon Parker (TEAM ABU) - 16lbs
Section 3
Peg 17 - Albert Bray - 108lbs
Peg 18 - Paul Gardener - 46lbs
Peg 19 - Stu Johnson - 26lbs
Section 4
Peg 26 - Chris Hall - 19lbs
Peg 28 - Paul Bolsover - 15lbs
Peg 23 - Kev Russell (TEAM ABU) - 14lbs
Pool 4
Peg 68 - Ringo - 38lbs
Peg 67 - Rich Morgan - 27lbs
Peg 70 - Tony Beresford - 22lbs
Pool 5
Peg 78 - Chris Allen (TEAM ABU) - 33lbs
Peg 77 - Tony Woodings - 25lbs
Peg 83 - Dave Hunter - 13lbs
The match had proved to be very good with only four anglers frightened to weigh-in.
And finally, some of our members are apparently taking practice a bit too far. On top of midweek sessions we now have to compete with Nintendo Wii. Paul Bolsover has apparently bagged up every evening last week, taking several nice bass on each session! Chris Needham’s form has still not returned after his months' at Makins. Mr Ward said that he is now one of the easiest anglers to beat, especially when he doesn't weigh-in. Another angler on suicide watch is our TV ACE Chris Downs - he was one of only two anglers not to weigh-in on pool 1 and he even managed to talk Rich Wells out of weighing so he didn't look so bad.
