Sunday 1st March 2009

This week's match attendance was swelled by some of the fine weather anglers taking advantage of the mild spell. Rob Clayton was back in charge of the draw and his counting and adding up seemed to have improved, some suggested this was down to him recently adding up pizzas! Scott Brown's ears must have been burning early Sunday morning, along with his ankle. News had reached the draw that after his pedalo antics last week that he has now taken up 5-aside football. Mr Ward was quick to point out that Scott counted as all 5 on his side. The Match didn't go well with three players needing hospital treatment! Scott had to be stretchered off with a suspected broken ankle. Mr Bates added that it would be the stretcher bearers that would need the first-aid afterwards. Bad stuff. One of our regular members, Gary Sadler, has also been hospitalised recently, but had turned out for some fresh air. Mr Ward was very kind and offered to carry his kit to his peg.

On to the fishing, not too many reports from pool 1, looking at the results the fishing was an improvement on last week's results. In true Glebe form the results were very close indeed. Dave ‘Ringo’ Ringham took top weight on the lake with 48lbs 9ozs, only 1 ounce ahead of the section 2 winner Rich Wells. Match Catch’s Andy Towers thought it was summer and joined us, winning the final section with 24lbs, only ounces ahead of Paul Bolsover.

Section 1
Peg 1 - Ringo - 48lbs
Peg 6 - Gordon Priddey - 40lbs 10ozs
Peg 2 - Mick Moore - 40lbs 2ozs

Section 2
Peg 11 - Rich Wells - 48lbs
Peg 18 - John Palmer - 47lbs
Peg 14 - Stu Odonnell - 40lbs

Section 3
Peg 24 - Andy Towers (team ABU) - 24lbs
Peg 23 - Paul Bolsover - 23lbs
Peg 26 - Jeff Reast - 12lbs

Pool 4 was won by in form Gary Miller. With Albert Bray feeling the pressure on last week's hot peg taking second place.

Pool 4
Peg 68 - Gary Miller - 59lbs
Peg 70 - Albert Bray - 46lbs
Peg 71 - Chris Hall - 41lbs

My first draw on pool 5 in the winter league turned out to be an eye opener. I spent most of the match struggling to get a bite whilst pool 5 regular Dom Lanni, at the next peg, took a succession of large carp up to 10lbs, on both the feeder and long pole, to make a brilliant winning weight of 95lbs. Steve Conway caught steadily on the pole to finish in second place whilst Rob Bowser caught three fish in the last few minutes on the feeder to take third spot just ahead of Jim Chessman. I was saved from coming in last by one of the summer anglers putting his catch back without weighing.

Pool 5
Peg 80 - Dom Lanni - 95lbs
Peg 78 - Steve Conway - 53lbs
Peg 76 - Rob Bowser (team ABU) - 50lbs

Mr Ward had taken the last peg in the bag and it tuned out to be the little girl's peg. He was next to Gary Sadler so he helped him to his peg as he promised. It turned out to be a very good day for both of them. Gary, who is supposed to be taking things easy, had to lay down for the last hour of the match as he had caught so many fish! This did allow Mr Ward a chance to catch up a bit and they finished with Gary in first place with a brilliant 91lbs and Mr Ward second with 71lbs. Rich Morgan was only just behind with a great performance on the feeder from the other end of the lake.

Pool 6
Peg 88 - Gary Sadler (team ABU) - 91lbs
Peg 86 - David Ward - 71lbs
Peg 94 - Rich Morgan - 69lbs

Pool 7 also produced from both ends with Chris Allen tops on 108 and Trev Slater second from the other end. Andy Kind was put under pressure from Chris Downs and Chris Allen either side fishing as a team, but caught enough for third spot.

Pool 7
Peg 108 - Chris Allen (team ABU) - 63lbs
Peg 102 - Trev Slater - 58lbs
Peg 106 - Andy Kind - 48lbs

And finally, news of my poor performance even reached Roy after the match. It had been suggested that the report would be up late this week due to my demise, especially as Mr Ward had fished so well, and that maybe I could get some help from here. I have made the extra effort to get the results up quickly. News had also reached us that well known pro-angler MR PSORTER is very disillusioned with fishing, recently he was not picked for a local crack team as he was too professional to fish! Mr Ward was still pondering after the match how strong the crutches would need to be to get Scott around with his broken ankle!

Russelli.
